What does a three-phase connection cost?
A three-phase connection is needed for powerful EV chargers, a three-phase cooking circuit or business use. On this page you'll find what determines the cost and how the process works.

What determines the cost?
The cost of three-phase has two parts. First, the grid operator: they supply or upgrade the connection. The cost and lead time vary by region and application.
Second, my work: adapting your consumer unit, any cabling and connecting your EV charger or equipment. For that you get a tailored quote from me.
If you already have three-phase, only my changes are needed; otherwise the grid operator has to be involved first.
| Installing three-phase power in the consumer unit | € 545 incl. VAT |

| Installation work per hour | € 103 per hour incl. VAT |
How long will you have to wait?
That's the most important question right now, and the answer varies a lot by area. In some places the grid is full and an upgrade can take months; a few streets away it goes smoothly. Enter your postcode and you'll see which grid operator you have and how things stand in your area.
Taking a long time? Then I'll look with you at whether there's an interim solution. Often an EV charger with smart load balancing can go on your current connection, so you don't have to wait.
Example scenarios
You already have three-phase
I adapt the consumer unit and connect your EV charger or cooking circuit. The cost is then limited to my installation work and materials.
Applying for three-phase from the grid operator
You have single-phase now and want three-phase for a powerful EV charger. You apply to the grid operator for a three-phase connection. Once it's in, I do the consumer unit and the connection.
Business connection or supply upgrade
For businesses or higher consumption an upgrade or separate connection may be needed. I advise on and take care of the electrical side; the grid operator arranges the connection.
Factors that affect the price
- Grid operator: cost and lead time for supplying or upgrading the connection; ask them for an indication.
- Consumer unit: adapting or replacing the consumer unit for three-phase; I give a quote for my part.
- Cabling: distance from the meter cupboard to the EV charger or cooking circuit; a longer distance means more materials and labour.
- Type of load: EV charger, cooking circuit or business use; each has its own installation requirements.
- Existing situation: sometimes there's already partial three-phase or an upgrade is needed; that affects the approach and the cost.
Questions about three-phase
What does a three-phase connection cost?
The cost has two parts: the application and any changes by the grid operator (cost and lead time vary) and my work: adapting the consumer unit and any cabling. I give a quote for my part; for the grid operator you can ask them for an indication.
When do I need three-phase?
For a powerful EV charger (11 kW or more), a three-phase cooking circuit or for businesses. For most home chargers single-phase (7.4 kW) is enough. I give tailored advice.
How long until I have three-phase?
The grid operator's lead time can be a few weeks to months, depending on the region and their schedule. I do the consumer unit changes and the installation once the connection is approved.
Do I have to wait for the grid operator for an EV charger?
Not always. If it takes a long time, I'll look with you at whether there's an interim solution. Often an EV charger with smart load balancing can go on your current connection.
Is a quote free of obligation?
Yes. You get a transparent quote for my work. You arrange the grid operator yourself or I refer you; their charges are outside my quote.

How many circuits do you need in your consumer unit?
Work it out room by room instead of guessing a number. And add four spare modules: that costs next to nothing now and saves a whole new consumer unit later.
